Welcome to Winnipeg Working Dog Club
We’re a community of dedicated dog enthusiasts training and competing in the international working dog sport of IGP (formerly Schutzhund/IPO).
Our members work with their dogs in tracking, obedience, and protection — building confidence, control, teamwork, and trust through structured training and responsible handling.
Whether you’re new to working dogs, interested in learning more about IGP, or looking for a supportive training club, we welcome handlers and dogs of many working breeds and experience levels.
what is igp?
IGP is a sport designed to evaluate a dog’s temperament, trainability, athletic ability, and relationship with its handler. The sport consists of three phases:
Tracking – following a human scent trail with focus and precision
Obedience – advanced control, teamwork, and responsiveness
Protection – controlled exercises that test courage, stability, and obedience
Despite common misconceptions, IGP is not about creating aggressive dogs. In fact, dogs with unstable or poor temperaments are not suitable for the sport. A successful IGP dog must be confident, social, controllable, and safe around people.
More Than Training
Our club is also a social community. We host training days, trials, seminars, hikes, barbecues, and club events throughout the year. Members can train recreationally or pursue competition at local, regional, national, and international levels.
